    x and the square root of x

    the title here is what i am confused about, what exponent does one put on x to create x and the square root of x ?????????????????

    The exponent you'd put on x to get x is 1. The exponent you'd put on x to get square root of x is 1/2. Is that what you're asking?

    yes, however i have come accross questions where it is both, that is whats meesing me up, what one exponent produces both
